Our Beliefs and Values

First Christian Church (DOC) is a biblical-based congregation that believes in Jesus Christ, the Son of the heavenly creator God. We are dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community where individuals can explore and deepen their faith. Our mission is to spread the message of love, hope, and salvation through meaningful worship services, engaging small groups, and impactful service opportunities. We are committed to empowering individuals to grow spiritually and personally by integrating biblical teachings into everyday life.

Who We Are

We are a movement of more than 3,000 congregations in the United States and Canada, committed to sharing the limitless love of God throughout the world. We worship in over 17 languages, in a variety of styles and settings. We are related to 15 colleges and universities and 7 seminaries and divinity houses where new leaders are nurtured. Our 31 regions, 14 general ministries, and ministry partners throughout the world make it possible for us to love and serve our neighbors from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth.  

Principles Of Identity

  1. We confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world, requiring nothing more – and nothing less – as a basis of our life together. 

  2. We hold the centrality of scripture, recognizing that each person has the freedom – and the responsibility – to study God’s Word within the community of the church. 

  3. We practice immersion as the baptism of believers, which emphasizes that God’s grace demands a response of faith and discipleship, while also recognizing the baptism performed in other churches. 

  4. We gather for the Lord’s Supper, as often as possible, experiencing at this table the gracious, forgiving presence of Jesus Christ. 

  5. We stress our accountability to one another because of our shared obedience to Christ and not obedience to human authority. 

  6. We affirm and rejoice in the gifts of the Holy Spirit – which include the gift of leadership – that God has given for the common good. 

  7. We anticipate God’s coming reign, seeking to serve the God – Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer – whose loving dominion has no end.
